Self-Ligating Braces

Unlike traditional braces, self-ligating braces are designed to work without elastics (rubber bands). Their design generally results in shorter treatment times, fewer trips to the office, and greater comfort. Self-ligating braces use a slide mechanism to hold the archwire in place instead of elastic ligatures. Typically made from stainless steel, the brackets used are also available in ceramic for a clear smile during treatment—and a great face after.

Treatment time is typically shorter than with traditional braces. Because they don’t need to be tightened, using self-ligating braces may reduce the number of trips to our office during your treatment. They also may be more comfortable than traditional braces and, with no elastic rings, easier to keep clean. Plus, the clear versions are virtually invisible.

A “passive” slide mechanism maintains archwires within the bracket, allowing them to move freely. This reduces friction and binding, so your teeth can move quickly and more comfortably.
